Ajit Jain is an Indian-American businessman who is currently the Vice Chairman of Insurance Operations at Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate headed by Warren Buffett. He was born in Odisha, India in 1951 and graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur with a degree in mechanical engineering. Jain then earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
He began his career with McKinsey & Company before joining Berkshire Hathaway in 1986 to head its reinsurance division. Known for his disciplined underwriting approach and keen business acumen, Jain has been credited with helping Berkshire Hathaway become a major player in the reinsurance industry. He is considered a potential successor to Warren Buffett as the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. Jain is also known for his charity work and philanthropy, supporting causes related to education and healthcare in India.
